Achievement Week 2017

On November 12, 2017 at 5:00pm in the Auditorium at Central High School, the Alpha Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. celebrated their annual Achievement Week Program. This program celebrated the achievements of over 175 young men from pre-k to 12th grade from the counties of Bibb, Greene, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa. A $500 scholarship was awarded to a senior from each county plus an additional scholarship in Tuscaloosa County. The scholarship recipients were: Jaleel Anderson – Bibb County, Tony White, Jr. – Greene County, Desmond Hill – Pickens County, Jordan Toole – Sumter County, Erskine Simmons and Dremere Woods – Tuscaloosa County. There were over 600 people in the audience which consisted of parents, teachers, counselors, school administrators, and local school board officials. This program also highlighted the achievements of the local graduate chapter – Alpha Tau and the undergraduate chapters in which they oversee: Rho Gamma – Stillman College, Beta Eta – The University of Alabama, and Alpha Delta Iota – The University of West Alabama. The following graduate awards were given: Omega Man of the Year – Bro. James Granger, Superior Service Award – Bro. Darrell Bradford, Founders’ Award – Bro. Roland Lewis, Col. Charles Young Award – Bro. Charles Stacy, Meritorious Service Award – Bro. Gregory Eubanks, Citizen of the Year- Rev. Tyshawn Gardner, and Advisors of the Year – Bro. Albert Ike, Jr. and Christopher Spencer.
Two of the Tuscaloosa undergraduate chapters even received awards from the state level. Avery Brown II of Rho Gamma – Stillman College received the State of Alabama Undergraduate Omega Man of the Year award. Beta Eta Chapter – The University of Alabama received the following awards: State of Alabama Highest GPA Award with over a 3.0 GPA, State of Alabama Undergraduate Chapter of the Year Award, State of Alabama Social Action Undergraduate Chapter of the Year, State of Alabama State of Alabama Superior Service Award – Bro. Jasper Edwards, State of Alabama Founders’ Award – Bro. Robert Henderson, State of Alabama Highest GPA Award – Bro. Jasper Edwards, State of Alabama Col. Charles Young Award – Bro. Cavin Parrish, State of Alabama Marchdown Champions and State of Alabama Chapter Advisors of the Year – Bro. Albert Ike, Jr. and Bro. Christopher Spencer.
